28 Books In 2008
I’m entirely open to any book suggestions. Feel free to comment below
#1 Title: Angels & Demons
Author: Dan Brown
Started: December 2007
Finished: Mid-January
Rating: 9/10
Thoughts: It has remarkably similar components to The Davinci Code, but a compelling plot, nonetheless.
#2 Title: The Kite Runner
Author: Khaled Hosseini
Started: Unrecorded
Finished: Mid-March
Rating: 8/10
Thoughts: I can understand how it is deeply moving, and I do admit that it was emotionally provoking, it did not provide the BANG! of a deeply moving novel that I had anticipated. I may have to re-read this to get the full dosage.
#3 Title: Lord of the Flies
Author: William Golding
Started: Unrecorded
Finished: Mid-March
Rating: 6.5/10
Thoughts: Golding’s way to twist the innocent of boys into savagery was… interesting? I’m neutral on this one.
#4 Title: To Kill A Mockingbird
Author: Harper Lee
Started: January 29th, 2008
Finished: April 17th, 2008
Rating: 9/10
Thoughts: The beginning was a bit slow (but then again, I indefinitely dragged the part alone for two weeks… not a recommendation, my friends), but made up for itself by the ending. I believe that this was one of the better novels I’ve read.
#5 Title: Animal Farm
Author: George Orwell
Started: April 18th, 2008
Finished: April 19th, 2008
Rating: 8/10
Thoughts: A fast read with a good representation of a manipulative, totalitarianism government.
#6 Title: Twilight
Author: Stephanie Meyers
Started: April 20th, 2008
Finished: Unrecorded.
Rating: 7/10
Thoughts: I now know that I am not destined to read romance novels about vampire boyfriends. Although, a part of does want to get a copy of New Moon, only to see if the plot gets better.
#7 Title: The Memory Keeper’s Daughter
Author: Kim Edwards
Started: Late May
Finished: June 9th, 2008
Rating: 9/10
Thoughts: I liked it. Just, I’d figure the ending would wrap up most of its loose ends (WHY DID DAVID HAVE TO DIE? WHYYYY?).
#8 Title: False Reality
Author: Dean Koontz
Started: Unrecorded
Finished: July 3rd, 2008
Rating: 10/10
Thoughts: I’m a huge fan of myster/suspense/thriller books. The exposition made me put off the book for some time before picking it up again, during a lazy summer afternoon. And, by the end, it did not disappoint. I recommend this
#9 Title: The Road
Author: Cormac McCarthy
Started: July 6th
Finished: July 27th
Rating: 7/10
Thoughts: I’m usually an emotionally stunted person, so this book didn’t really cause any tears to be shed. It’s sad, to me, how the entire book is based in dying America. Despite the negative setting, the way the two main characters held onto each other for their own survival gave me hope for the man and the boy. It’s touching, really. If I was a woman on her rag, trust me, I’d be crying.
#10 Title: Choke
Author: Chuck Palahniuk
Started: August 1st
Finished August 12th
Rating: 10/10
Thoughts: I’m a huge fan of Palahniuk’s satirical writing style and his way of describing touchy topics in its raw entity. Goodness, the man is a genius. I’d definitely recommend this book ![]()

Wow, you’re a fast reader!
Angels & Demons - the similarities sort of make me doubt Dan Brown’s ability to create new content (same for his other books as well, I’ve read all of them)
The Kite Runner - I totally broke down crying in the middle of it. Unforgettable.
Lord of the Flies - So many people I know read it in elementary school and kept nudging me to read it (or be frowned upon by the literary world). I didn’t like it that much, not fond of the genre or the author.
Anyway, welcome aboard on the challenge! Happy reading.

(I know, what am I doing here? Checking your book list for any books I’d be interested in.
)
So maybe the plot of Twilight is a little… fickle. Still. I love it anyway.
Read Looking For Alaska, by John Green. You know, if you haven’t already.

I’m so sorry, Miss Stalker here again. Can’t help but ot comment again .. I promise I’ll stop soon. I can’t believe you like Animal Farm, my english class spent the last 8 months analysing it. Maybe that’s why I hate it so much? I know you said you’re not destined for romance novels but “Is anybody there?” by Marian Keyes is a seriously good book. It knocked my socks off
