Categorized in !@$#%@!, School.

I don’t know. I seriously do not know any longer. I can’t make up my fickle mind; nor can I come to a final outcome.

It all started this morning when I glanced at the clock striking 8 o’clock. About an hour from then, would be an audition for this magnet school downtown. I promised a friend I would apply for the visual arts, since they’ve always provoked my interest and the school seemed fairly unique. It’s a win-win situation: I apply for a school of interest, and she would have another student from middle school to accompany her through the years. But in reality… I had doubts. Doubts that eventually got the best of me.

Pros:

  1. One of the top schools in the district
  2. Old friends to look back on old times and new people to meet
  3. Less students than your average public school. No CRAMMED hallways!
  4. Learning the workings of art, with an in depth major of 4 years
  5. I’ve always liked a new challenge
  6. A fresh start with a new campus

Cons:

  1. I lost my report card which was necessary to apply
  2. I personally find my art… sort of… not prime. I mean, heck, it’s an ART school! Who knows what prodigies are there?!
  3. My father doesn’t support it really well. He finds 4 years of art exposure is worthless… :birdie:
  4. My mother would literally smack me with a broom if I went to a school downtown, due to the distance
  5. Intimidation would be just too evident…
  6. With only six pieces of art… I don’t think I could slide by and qualify
  7. Leaving behind friends…

I continue to switch my opinions to and fro… and I can’t tell what my true motives are any longer. Which, honestly, sucks… butt.

In honor of my resentment towards my fickle mind and the fact that I couldn’t make the audition otherwise… I’ve summed up some line art I was fooling around with this morning of the audition.

It’s what happens when your world’s too indecisive and you take it all out on Photoshop and blogging.

School starts on the 27th of August for me and considering it IS the 17th, I’ve got 10 Holy days of summer left in the bag. Better make use of them.

Considering a face lift to brighten up your day? Have a thing for Dr.91020? In a world where the media sadly portrays beauty as pencil thin, straight hair, flawless skin, and a wrinkle-free face… Chicago facelift is just what you need. LIFT THAT FACE INSTANTLY! For vanity, of course.

Hm, that’s interesting. In California, we only have one public highschool that everyone gets to go to if they live in the area. I’m applying for a private Catholic school, which I probably won’t get into because they prefer Catholic applicants.

I would go to the art school if you were truly interested in art. It wouldn’t make sense going to highschool for something that you aren’t interested in.

On the last line of my post, by ‘laugh’ I meant, just laugh in a jokingly manner. Don’t let them get to you, and laugh to show them that you aren’t affected by their pathetic attempts to get you down.

oh don’t worry, i went through this upon entering high school, too - choosing a new, specialized school (i thought we were only supposed to do that *after* high school, for college? :um:), and it was a grueling process and everything, but that didn’t match deciding where to go. i was actually annoyed that we didn’t offer any art-oriented schools here, so i opted for political science/history type stuff (haha, same thing, right? i also applied for medical science :D).

anyway, my “story” kind of has a point! i think you should go for it, because especially seeing your pros and cons, the pros are just better. i know it’s hard to go against your parents, but they have to learn that this is what you want to do (right?). you can always ask your school to print another report card as well as work on your portfolio to add more pieces. i once spent an entire night working on things as a submission to an art program, and what i did in eight sleepless hours was shit but it got me into a prestigious class, so if i could do it, i’m sure you can, too (by the way, my parents were really against this as well. they get over it). besides, if you aren’t exactly a master artist right now, you can hone your skills at the school because you’ll be able to dedicate a lot more time to it. just think about it some more - maybe even talk it out with your parents - and let us know what you choose! :)

Hello. xD I just stumbled upon your site. I hope you don’t mind that I’m commenting on this particular post. It’s just I’ve also experienced something similar. In the end, I chose my home school (a normal public high school). I, however, also enrolled in a vocational-type program. That means I go to a different school in the mornings and attend art-related classes there. Blah. Enough of my history. My point is that I chose a normal-ish high school rather than an art high school. Why? Because it leaves me more options for the future. Most people who attend art high schools find it hard to switch their majors. That means most of them are stuck traveling along one/a few roads, instead of hundreds. Also, your world will be centered around art instead of having a mind that explores all possibilities. For example, if you attend the art school and later decide that you are not cut out for it, you will have a hard time.
This comment is starting to sound like a lecture, so I’ll stop. ^^; I hope I made sense. I don’t want to tell you that it’s right or wrong… I just want to mention my thoughts. (Not that you care, right? :D)

On a side note, we went to Washington D.C during the same time. Funny how small the world is, right? I might have even seen you. I do recall seeing a lot of middle school kids… :P

Oh dear. Indecisiveness. I hate it so much but I’m so indecisive myself…-sighs-

Audition? Magnet school? I’m so out of whack with these terms. What is a magnet school? I remember people talking about them when I was younger and I always just thought it was funny because…well…magnet. And I thought of actual magnets. And then that’s about all I know about magnet schools. XD

Holy crap, lost your repor card!? That’s a big no no! You need to find it ASAP. Or maybe you can ask your school for another official copy of one? I think you’re art is good! It wouldn’t hurt to apply right? It’s very considerate of you think about your parents though but not everything is about the parentals. Hopefully you will be able to decide soon. I would offer more advice but indecisive people giving indecisive people advice seems a bit backwards to me…haha…

Oh man, what a dilemma. Let me tell you something: when I was entering high school, I also considered applying for an art school. I wound up going to my normal, close-by public high school, and that was definitely the right decision for me. If you go to an art school, you probably won’t get to experience as many different subjects since art’ll have you so occupied.
Also, before I was in high school, I thought I wanted to do something artsy for a living. After all the classes I’ve taken in the 9th and 10th grades, however, I realized that I’d be much better off doing something with math and science.
Plus, even the non-art magnet school will have art classes, so you’re good either way.
But anywho, that’s all just me… I think you should “follow your heart,” ahahahahaha. :-)

I think you should try out for the school. I know that it may be more tough and your parents might not approve, but I think you have a shot at it and you should give it a try. Your art is great and I don’t want you to think otherwise. If you are worrying about highschool too you can talk to me about it. I am in the same boat so it is nice to talk about the change from middle to highschool. If you didn’t already know my e-mail, it is ValHos11@msn.com.

Oh I like your work Austin. It’s awseome! I think you would’ve made it if you would’ve showed them that. :rasberry:

Man, I’m so mad. I didn’t backup my wordpress and the database I was using shut down. I’m so mad Austin. I don’t know what to do. I lost all of my wordpress pages and posts and comments and I don’t know what else but I’m pretty sure thats gone too. What do I do? I think I’ll have to start all the way over again but oh well. It should work out somehow. At least I still have my theme and index page. But for now, my site doesn’t work. The database I was using (freemysql.net) just quit on me. I need a more reliable mysql database cause that one sucks. Well, I guess that’s all. I’m sad and angry. Sigh :um: If you wanna respond, you may have to email me cause my site is down at the moment.

    Ciao.

Well SOMEBODY needs a good awakening.

*pours bucket of ice cold water over Austin’s head*

I’m ruthless like that, you know? XD But then, I’d totally appreciate it if someone did that to me when I was indecisive. Anywho, I think I’d go to the art school if I was kickass at art, if I knew I would stay committed to the subject and not ditch it and waste three years of my life.

As for your Cons list, who cares what prodigies there are there? It’s an art SCHOOL. You go to school to LEARN, not to be jealous of prodigies around you. It could be even flipped to a Pro: you’ll have a challenge (believe me, no challenge is boring and all your determination and motivation goes KAPUT!). As for your parents, something big would always be worth more than a smacking with a broom. And your father, well, most Asian parents probably think Art is useless and worthless, because Math pwn their worlds.

And if that didn’t work, think of it this way; there is no right or wrong answer. Both would benefit you in some way.

I’m out of gas. x_x All I have left to say is… enjoy the rest of your holidays. Dang, I still have school for another four weeks.

i say go with what you want to do. if you badly want this then go for it. your parents are there, but it’s you growing up. you’re living your life. live it the way you want it to be lived. they’re not going to be by your side when you get older. you’ll be making your own money and living in a different house. how you get that money might be fun or just plain boring. i’ll take the “fun” part if you ask me.

Hmmm… Yeah, that is a tough decision. Don’t you hate it when you just want something interesting in your life, but you somehow every single day find more cons in the situation and an increasing resentment in that decision?
Its very sad indeed. Its really what you think of it and if it will benefit you at all. OH yeah, and consider the consequences as well. Sometimes you end up regretting it, even if you chose the decision that everyone wanted.
I see there are more cons than pros. But two of them are reasons you can’t apply, rather than you SHOULDN’T. xD
hope you feel better about it. Sometimes you ask your parents or family and they don’t even healp youm just make you feel even worse (like my sister does to me)

I guess most parents would not really agree with their children taking up something related to arts. Had my share of that. When I told my mom that I was considering Fine Arts, she was like “It’s not a practical course”. That’s why I ended up randomly choosing the first course when I entered the University.

They don’t understand. Arts in one cool life! LOL. I wonder who’s more indecisive between us?

First things first: DO YOU WANT TO BE IN THE SCHOOL OR NOT? Like if you CAN, and there are no Cons applied, would you totally go? Second, make sure that you can face this, that you know what youre up against. Present your art to a teacher or the dean or whatever and ask him to… ’see’ [for lack of a better word] if you are fit for the school. Then, see which of your friends you would totally love going with. And ask your parents why they are so against that, at least, why your dad is against it. Ask your mom if she’s willing to drive you there or let you take the bus or whatever, if youre willing to like, be the best or whatever. THEN you weigh those pros and cons. Makes sense? IDK. It IS a pretty hard decision.

In reply to your comment: HOWWW do I change my comment length? I totally have no clue.
And ahahah I’m so sorry but I have to agree that I liked my orientation activity more than yours because of the fact that I have no clue about whats going on in the govt, except that theyre making an [ALMOST complete] ass of themselves. And yeah lol we did talk like that. You know, the whole Valley-girls thing? ‘Ehmagawdddd like gag me with a spoon’ sorta thing. :]]

Lol yeahh, then I’ll post a video on Youtube, if I can actually remember to take the video. Although I wouldnt say that you would see me having fun with the music, I’d probably just have fun being idiotically, maniacally [is that a word?] crazy. Hopefully. :)

Oo and you dont need to do the tag thing. I did it to torture people, but I understand if youve had your fair share of it >:)

I think you should go for it, if you’re crazy and like challenges, go for it! …*convince parents first :P*

Nice art, did you intentionally draw the first guy to look like Harry Potter, because he looks just like him.

    Keep up the good.
